About Us
Meet The Founder
Welcome! I'm Jill Carty, Founder and President of The Julia Project Foundation, our unique children's charity.
I'd like to share a little about us, our background, and our love of children.
My compassion for children was stirred again after being moved by the many needs and obstacles facing young HIV/AIDS orphaned African children I met while visiting Kenya in the winter of 2007. My husband Jim and I traveled to Garissa, Kenya, to fulfill a life goal of mine to see the children of Africa and their needs.
After coming home I knew we had to do something more to make a difference in the lives of hurting, underprivileged children and so The Julia Project was born.
My husband Jim and I have always shared a keen interest and have been involved in helping young children. For several years Jim and I, along with our daughter Maeghan and son Ryan, provided long term specialized foster care for hurting children struggling with behavior and social issues.
Prior to that, I ran a successful home daycare business for several years and was very active in church children's ministry and enjoyed helping at summer camp hamming it up in skits, running the tuck shop or pitching in as camp cook.
After guiding both of our children through their years of homeschooling we're enjoyed the rewards of seeing them move on to college and careers.
Fewer family commitments allowed me to volunteer as the Sponsorship Coordinator for ORA International Canada where I further developed their Destiny Child Sponsorship program for the last several years.
I bring these life experiences and my passion to see the under dog succeed to The Julia Project that had its humble beginnings in January, 2008. Please join us in our journey as we follow the leading of God to those who need our help.
