Brushfire Aid Relief
Assisting Australia Brushfire Victims
In an effort to provide brushfire aid relief to now homeless children in Australia, The Julia Project Fdn., has partnered with Hillsong Brushfire Relief, a campaign in Castle Hills, New South Wales, Australia. This fits with our mandate to provide emergency aid relief to help children where appropriate.
Our hearts and prayers reach out to the hundreds of brushfire victims. This tragedy has resulted in many injured and homeless people and left families devastated by tremendous losses.
Black Saturday
Saturday, February 7, 2009, marks the day the fires began ravaging the state of Victoria, and has been dubbed, Black Saturday. Firefighters continue to battle 30 blazes across the state. They believe the death toll to be over 200.
The fires have destroyed more than 1000 homes and have wiped out the entire town of Marysville, where 100 lives were claimed.
Arson Suspected
Victoria's premier, John Brumby, sadly reported that the Mansfield plantation fire was deliberately set. Local authorities are investigating leads on the suspected arsons.
It is estimated that 7 1/2 thousand have been left homeless, and that over 1 1/2 thousand square miles have been devastated by the fires.
The funds collected by Hillsong, will be directed to the local Red Cross or Salvation Army for hands on distribution to the victims in need.
