Filled with facts about Kenya, our Kenya country profile takes us to the land of Africa, with it's natural beauty, and rich in East Africa history.








Found at the equator along the Indian Ocean, Kenya is bordered by Tanzania to the south, Somalia to the northeast, Ethiopia to the north, Uganda and Lake Victoria to the west, and Sudan to the northwest.

Kenya is a popular travel destination, known for it's many wildlife reserves and thousands of species of animals. Kenya's capital and largest city is Nairobi.

History of Name of Kenya

The official name of Kenya is Republic of Kenya. Prior to 1920 it was known as British East Africa.

It is named after Mount Kenya, the well known landmark known as the second highest mountain peak of Africa.

The country's first elected president, Jomo Kenyatta, chose the name at independence in 1963, to reflect his commitment to freeing his country.
