Meet Lisa

Children's Project Helps African Students

I'm excited to have you meet Lisa, a young college age girl who contacted us in early November, 2009.

Lisa wants to visit Africa one day, and has dreams of volunteering as a teacher, or whatever may be needed.

She contacted the adults in her co-housing community and proposed that the yearly children's craft fair proceeds be donated to The Julia Project Foundation. She suggested the proceeds from their event would go to African school children who need school supplies.

Proposal Accepted

Lisa emailed us again a few weeks later to tell us that her proposal had been accepted and that the other craft fair co ordinator was also in agreement that the children could donate the funds raised to our work with African school children.

Event Details

On December 5th, 2009, Lisa and her group of hard working children held their craft fair and sold what they had made.

Here's what Lisa wrote. "There were about 12 children that sold things they were good at. One was selling home made chocolate, another was selling jewellry. I was selling jewellry for kids and moms, (but one boy was really into the bracelets and he bought two for himself), one was selling kitchen magnets she had made herself, another sold light switch covers she had painted. A little 4 year old made picture frames out of popsicle sticks. Everything went well and everyone had fun."

At the end of the day the amount to be donated totalled about $66.00. We look forward to receiving the funds to be sent to the African school we support in Garissa, Kenya.

We can hardly wait to see the photos of this great story as well.

Thank you so much Lisa to both you and all the children who participated and worked so hard. A truely heartwarming story of kids helping kids.
