Madison's Project

Just a few days before Jim and I left for Kenya this past November, we were honored to meet Madison, another special little girl.

Her mother, Tammy, is a colleague of Jim's who heard about our work with our children's charity, The Julia Project. Tammy was very supportive of our efforts and shared her enthusiasm with her daughter, Madison.

Together they set out to help. Following Julia's lead, Madison also collected money, this time going door to door in her neighborhood with her Dad. They also donated small toys, games, books, and goodies for our African school children at Rukia's school. Our suitcases were repacked to overflowing!

We were able to deliver Madison's generous donations to Rukia who accepted them with excitement and thanksgiving. The money collected was given towards the purchase of a goat for the local grandmothers raising their HIV orphaned grandchildren.

We visited the last morning at the school before their scheduled school break. When I walked into the office, Rukia and her staff were busy wrapping each of Madison's little toys and books in newspaper. Each package was marked with a child's name to be handed to them as a special parting gift for their holiday.

A Dream Being Fulfilled

I was so touched and very proud of Madison at that moment. For these children who have so little, Madison was providing something very special for them. Right before my eyes was the beginning of my dream to have children catch Julia's and my vision to see children helping children in need, being fulfilled.

Thank you Madison!
