Washington Post's Alternate Meanings Contest

I've had fun posting all those new words formed by alerting one letter in the Mensa Invitational Contest.

Here are some results from a similar contest. This time entrants were asked to submit alternate meanings for common words.

Here's our first choice:

"Coffee" - The person upon whom one coughs.

Mensa Words Continued

'Caterpallor"

The color you turn after finding half a worm in the fruit you're eating.

Are You Ready for More Mensa

This one caught my eye for all of you morning people.

"Inoculatte" To take coffee intravenously when you are running late.

Another Word from Mensa

Here's yet another word from our series from the Mensa Invitational.

"Sarchasm" - The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it.

More Mensa

Here's another altered word that now also has a new meaning.

"Giraffiti" - Vandalism spray-painted very, very high.

Mensa International Challenge

Seeing that The Julia Project is about helping through education, I thought you'd enjoy some recent winning entries to the Mensa Invitational.

Readers were asked to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition.

Here's one for today:

"Reintarnation" - Coming back to life as a hillbilly.

What Our Friendship Can Mean.....

The Julia Project extends our resources and prayers to HIV/AIDS orphans in Kenya and Haiti, and assists hurting Aboriginal children in Northern Ontario.

I found this quote, and thought it is so appropriate for what we do through our fundraising efforts and the giving through our generous donors.

"Life ends when you stop Dreaming.
Hope ends when you top Believing.
Love ends when you stop Caring.
Friendship ends when you stop Sharing."

Thanks for being a part of our vision to help hurting children who can't help themselves.

A Joke

I suppose we should experience a little laughter every day. It's good for the soul.

On that note - here's a little joke!

'Two antennas met on a roof, fell in love and got married. The ceremony wasn't much, but the reception was excellent.'

Quote For Today

Even though Idi Amin Dada said this, I think we can all find truth in it for ourselves.

"Sometimes people mistake the way I talk for what I am thinking.”

Idi Amin Dada quotes (African President, 1926-2003)

Haiti Refugees

A recent article in the New York Times estimated that only 28,000 of the 1.5 million refugees have found housing since the earthquake of January 12th.

"...PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Hundreds of displaced families live perilously in a single file of flimsy shanties planted along the median strip of a heavily congested coastal road here called the Route des Rails."
